Easy Handprint Tree Craft for Kids

Ready for a fun and simple handprint tree craft you can do with your kiddos?

Hello there friends! Our topic for the day – an easy handprint tree craft for the kids that doesn’t take long at all! This craft has both hands and thumbprints included!

When my boys were smaller I remember doing a handprint craft at least once a year usually around Halloween. Turning their little hands into spider pictures or their feet into ghosts.

I haven’t done one in a while as the last few years have been busier and more chaotic. Ah, school, sports, work, aging parents…life in general.

Now that my oldest is in middle school, I figured I’d better do a few more before he starts refusing to work with me!

So a simple project I came up with was a handprint for tree branches and thumbprints for leaves. I just let my kids choose the colors and used paint that I had on hand in my craft cupboard, along with some card stock paper.

The Handprint Tree Craft

First I helped them make their handprints, as even bigger kids have trouble coating every surface of their hand. Then we placed them on the card stock paper making sure that every finger was visible.

Next, I asked each kid to make a trunk for their tree. A few did a quick job, but my middle guy decided to be creative and make a birch tree design with his.

He also pointed out that we could have just coated their forearms with paint and made that into the trunk of the tree. 😉

Lastly, I asked them to dip their thumbs into paint colors of their choosing and decorate their branches with “leaves.”

And that was it! A quick craft that allows you to keep a print of their hand and thumbprint for years to come!

Decorate by Putting Handprints into Frames

Handprint trees in frames on wall

I have frames like these that hold some of their artwork hanging in the hallway of our home.

They are nice to invest in, as they also have a pocket to store artwork not currently being displayed. They are easy to change out as well!

Some examples of these types of frames are here (I have this frame and it’s nice quality) and here.

Kids sure love having their artwork displayed and I love using meaningful pieces and favorite pictures to adorn the walls of our home!

More Ideas for Handprint Trees

Some other ideas include making a handprint tree for every season in different leaf colors and then having the kiddos decorate the background!

I also found these cool tree prints on amazon linked here, which allows you to put fingerprints from each of your children in a different color! A great gift for grandparents I might add!
