Grapevine Heart Garland DIY for Rustic Valentine Decor

Ready for an Anthropology-inspired Valentine’s Day garland? This tutorial uses brown floral wire shaped into hearts to create a rustic grapevine effect for your holiday decor.

I was working on another rustic Valentine’s Day decor idea, when I happened upon a grapevine heart garland on the Anthropology website.

I liked this garland so much, that I pivoted and decided to craft a grapevine dupe heart garland that’s inspired by the one for sale on Anthropology.

However, good news is that mine can be made a lot more cheaply and with only a few supplies. And it’s so easy to create.

Let me show you how!

Oh, and don’t worry, I included a free printable to make the job even easier! Now, on to making this natural looking heart garland DIY just in time for the upcoming holiday!

Supplies including brown floral wire, tape measure, scissors and free printable.

Grab Your Free Heart Printable

First things first, grab your free printable. You could probably do this project without it, but this just makes the job easier.

Measure Out the Floral Wire

First, I measured out the floral wire for the larger heart. I did this by simply using my printable and wrapping the wire in the heart shape.

You can even skip this step since I can tell you that it measured about 15 inches. 😉

Next, simply fold the wire over to keep that measurement and then measure out about 17 additional feet of the floral wire. This is where the measuring tape comes in handy!

Sounds like a lot but the process is super simple. Trust me!

Wrap the Floral Wire Around to Create Grapevine Effect

Keeping that 15-inch measurement double the wire back and then keep wrapping the wire up and down that initial measurement. It should start looking something like this.

I just kept winding it around that length of wire as I wrapped up and down.

Create Heart Shape with Free Printable

Once that’s completed, it’s time to shape it into a heart. Use the free printable as a guide.

Once you have it shaped the way you want it, cut a small piece of wire.

Use the wire to secure the heart in the middle to maintain the shape.

Now, onto making the smaller heart.

Create the Small Grapevine-Look Heart

Next up, it’s time to make the smaller heart. Just as in the steps above, get an idea of how much wire you need.

I can tell you that the smaller heart will need about 10 inches of wire to form the shape.

Using the free printable determine how much wire you will need to make the small heart.

Measure out 10 inches of the floral wire and fold it over.

Measure out an additional 10 feet of floral wire. Then wrap it around and around that initial 10-inch wire strand.

Shape it into a small heart using the printable. And, just as before, secure it in the middle with an additional piece of wire.

Your smaller heart is now complete. Onto the next step!

Connect the Large and Small Rustic Hearts

Cut an additional piece of floral wire and secure the large and small hearts.

Secure the large and small heart together using the floral wire. I wrapped it around the two hearts, and also kind of in a figure eight pattern along the top and bottom.

And here they are…so happy together! 🎵

Now, we just need to keep making more hearts and secure them together. Make as many as needed for the space you are hanging them in.

I timed myself just to see how long it would take me to make one heart. For the larger sized heart, it took me about 6 and 1/2 minutes (just in case you were wondering).

And lastly, a few pics of the completed rustic garland.

Final Thoughts on this Grapevine Inspired Heart Garland

So, is this a project you’d like to try to add some organic looking Valentine’s Day decor to your home?

This wire is probably one of my favorite craft supplies, and I think it resembles grapevine when you thicken it by wrapping it around itself multiple times.

This stuff goes a long way too! I’ve used it on many, MANY projects, and I just finally ran out after making this heart garland.

The fact that this tutorial only uses a few supplies, most of which you may already have on hand, is a win!

Just grab some wire and print out the free printable and you should be all set!

Just in time for Valentine’s Day!
